Several businesses burned in Port Coquitlam fire

A strip mall in Port Coquitlam was badly damaged by fire early Monday morning.

The fire broke out at about 4:20 a.m. at Martha’s Bakery & Cafe at Shaughnessy Street and McAlllister Avenue.

It took firefighters about four hours to extinguish the blaze. Initially it was being fuelled by natural gas, which was later shut off.

A total of seven businesses were destroyed or badly damaged. There are no reports of any injuries and no known cause.

B.C court records show a person with the same name and age has a lengthy record for break and enter, theft and mischief.

The investigation continues.
