Woman dead after scuba diving accident Sunday

A 43-year-old Surrey woman died while diving in West Vancouver Sunday.

In a press release, West Vancouver Police said they are investigating the fatal accident along with the B.C. Coroners Service.

Police and ambulance officials were called to Whytecliff Park after noon on Sunday.

A diver had been brought to shore in severe medical distress after signalling difficulty to fellow divers,” police said.

“The exact nature of the emergency experienced by the victim remains under investigation.”

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not identified. There are reports that the woman was a student in a diving class.

The release said: “The B.C. Coroners Service has taken custody of the victim’s diving equipment and is continuing the investigation assisted by West Vancouver Police.”
