Mountie in hospital with serious injuries after patrol car rear-ended on Highway 1

Police are looking for witnesses after an unmarked and parked RCMP car was re-ended on Highway 1 in Langley Sunday morning.

An RCMP officer was sitting in the car, with the emergency lights flashing, when it was rear-ended by a pick up truck at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

The officer is being treated for serious injuries in hospital.

The police car was parked on the side of the highway facing westbound between 232 Street and Glover Road. The officer was investigating a single car rollover and was waiting for a tow truck.

A police new release said the three occupants of the truck were taken to hospital. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said they want to hear from a witness who may have been driving behind the truck that hit the police car.

“This person apparently briefly stopped at the scene but left before investigators were able to obtain their particulars,” said the press release.

Police are investigating the initial rollover and the subsequent rear end collision with the police car. Police said that section of highway is closed for “an undetermined amount of time.”
