Vancouver's Trump hotel tries again on pool bar, nightclub approval

A revised proposal for a pool bar and nightclub at the Trump hotel and tower is set to return to Vancouver city council next week.

The hotel’s first application was turned down at one of the more entertaining council meetings in recent memory. Residents who live near the hotel were worried about late night noise and assurances from the Trump hotel’s manager failed to impress councillors like Kerry Jang.

“I’m feeling I’m kind of getting the wool pulled over my eyes and I don’t appreciate it,” Jang said at the meeting.

The hotel’s new plan is for a 224 person patio and club — down from 383 in the last go around.

City staff recommend councillors approve the application but limit the hotel club’s hours of operation to 1 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday for the first year. The outdoor patio would need to shut down by 11 p.m. every night.
