Elderly Vancouver woman victim of attempted home invasion

Vancouver police are investigating an attempted home invasion Thursday night at the home of an 86-year-old woman.

Police said that shortly before 10 p.m., the woman was dropped off at her home near West 45th Avenue and Cambie Street. She walked to the rear of the house and entered, but a man approached from behind and attempted to force his way into the residence as she began to turn off the alarm system.

As the elderly woman struggled with the man, the house alarm went off, causing the suspect to run away. The motive for the attack is unknown.

Police were called, but a search of the area did not locate a suspect.

An image of the suspect shows he appears to be white, 35 to 45 years old, 5 feet six inches (1.68 metres) to five feet, 11 inches (1.8 metres) tall, balding, possibly brown hair, and stubble.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1.
