Earlier this month the Okanagan Skaha board approved the concept of closing one elementary school in Summerland, another in Penticton and a middle school in Penticton. The closures won’t be official until a third reading, scheduled for March 30.
“The board would like to thank everyone who has participated in this process for their time and diligence,” said school board chairwoman Linda Van Alphen. “And thank you to our trustees as these are not decisions that have been made lightly.”
Several Summerland schools will be reconfigured, with one school, Trout Creek elementary school, closing, effective June 30.
In Penticton, McNicoll Park middle school and West Bench elementary school will be closing.
Students attending these schools will be disbursed to nearby schools.
