What looked like a fatal car crash in Surrey last night is now being investigated as a “suspicious death.”
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now in charged of the case.
Surrey RCMP was called to the area of 79th Avenue and 123rd Street, just after 9:00 p.m. Friday after a report that a car had struck a tree.
“Police found one man suffering from injuries inconsistent with a car crash,” Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said in a news release.
The man was rushed to hospital however he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
“We are in the evidence-gathering stage at this time and expect to have the area closed off to public access for several hours. We are looking for anyone that may have been in the area at the time of the crash to come forward with information,” Ashton said.
She gave no information about why the death has been deemed suspicious.
The crash happened in a quiet residential neighbourhood.
I’ll update this story when I get more information.
