The Granville Bridge will soon be the swankiest span in town.
On Tuesday, Vancouver City Council has approved the installation of a spinning 10 to 15-foot chandelier under the bridge over Beach Avenue.
The $1.2-million light fixture, designed by Vancouver artist Rodney Graham, is the public art project for Vancouver House, a 59-storey twisting skyscraper being built by Westbank Corporation at 1460 Howe Street.

An artist’s rendering of Vancouver House, by the Howe Street on ramp to the Granville Street Bridge. The building, which is under construction, was awarded Future Project of the Year at the World Architectural Festival in November 2015.
Ian Gillespie, president of Westbank Projects, believes Graham’s artwork will be a major addition to the city.
“This will change Vancouver,” Gillespie said last year. “People are going to fly to Vancouver because of this piece.”
There is no timeline yet for the installation.
The artwork will be Graham’s sculptural interpretation of his 2005 film Torqued Chandelier Release, which was Inspired by Sir Isaac Newton’s famous water-bucket experiment, which explored the nature of rotational motion.
