Nearly 30,000 Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast homes and businesses are without power as BC Hydro scrambles to deal with outages caused by strong winds..
Most of the outages are in the Fraser Valley, which is being battered by southwest winds of 70 to 90 km/h.
A wind warning has also been issued for Metro Vancouver, which should experience gusts of up to 90km/h by this afternoon.
Environment Canada issues wind warnings when there is a significant risk of damaging winds. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur.
BC Hydro is dealing with nearly 50,000 outages province-wide with the Fraser Valley and southern Vancouver Island being the hardest hit.
