Liberal surge in BC came mainly at Conservative expense

Here is Lori Culbert’s riding-by-riding interactive of how BC voted.

The Liberal Party painted much of B.C. red Monday night. Their gains came mainly at the expense of the Conservatives, who lost the biggest share of votes in many BC ridings where they have traditionally done well.

The Liberals, who had just two B.C. seats before the election, increased their vote share everywhere but Victoria. Significantly, they did so in ridings such as Kelowna-Lake Country and Cloverdale-Langley City, where they earned just 11 per cent of the vote in 2011. The Liberals increased their vote by 35% in Kelowna and 34 per cent in Cloverdale.

Here is a chart I made showing vote shift between 2011 and 2015 for each party in all BC ridings.

My colleague Lori Culbert also made a graphic showing BC’s tightest races.
