Remember to vote on Monday!

I urge everyone to get out and vote Monday, regardless of your chosen candidate and political party.

It’s so important to participate.

Since this is a crime blog, I’ll highlight a few points from each of the three leading parties’ campaigns on crime.

I’m listing the party platforms in alphabetical order:

Conservatives:

• will enact  “Life Means Life” legislation to ensure the worst criminals never get a chance at parole
• will  increase funding to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Clandestine Laboratory Teams, which investigate drug labs and target organized crime.
• will create a list of criminal organizations that would include the Hells Angels, just like the list of banned terrorist groups
• increase funding to anti-gang programs for youth by 25%

Liberals:

• have promised an inquiry into missing and murder indigenous women
• will legalize marijuana and tax the sale of it.
• will tighten gun laws and enhance background checks
• will provide $100 million each year to the provinces and territories to support guns and gangs police task forces

NDP:

• has promised 2,500 new frontline police officers across Canada and will provide resources to deal with the backlog in entering data into the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC)

• will invest an additional $30 million into crime prevention and anti-gang programs

• has promised to decriminalize marijuana

• would repeal Bill C-51, the controversial anti-terrorism bill
