The Vancouver Canucks used the sixth pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft to take Abbotsford’s Jake Virtanen.
The 6-1, 21-pound Virtanen scored 45 goals and 26 assists in 71 games with the Calgary Hitmen this past season.
The 17-year-old winger is the first B.C. player to be chosen by the Canucks in the first round since Cam Neely went third overall in 1987.
