Experts are examining an anchor found six years ago off Whidbey Island north of Seattle to see if it belonged to George Vancouver, the English explorer whose name graces our city.
Vancouver charted the west coast in 1792 aboard the HMS Discovery. The 900-pound anchor, discovered by sea-cucumber diver Doug Monk, may have been the one lost by the HMS Chatham, a Royal Navy brig that accompanied the Discovery.
