My colleague Kim Pemberton has a story in today’s paper about efforts in Surrey to restrict the growth of payday loan businesses. One of the arguments of those seeking to restrict such outlets is that they target low-income neighbourhoods. To get a sense of whether that’s true, we mapped the location of payday loan locations in Vancouver and Surrey using business-license data and then compared that to income levels in each neighbourhood.
