Poverty affects many B.C. students, survey of teachers shows

B.C. has the distinction of having highest percentage of children living in poverty of all Canadian provinces, statistics show.
Using the 2011 before-tax, low-income cut-off statistics, 153,000 or 18.6 of all B.C. children are living in poverty and struggling to meet basic expenses. To find out the effects of poverty on B.C. classrooms, the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation conducted a survey of teachers across the province.
