The Vancouver Park Board voted Monday to ban on any new cetaceans from being housed at the Vancouver Aquarium.

The board voted 6-1 to amend its bylaws to ban new dolphins, whales or porpoises — including sick or injured ones — at the aquarium, which drew a record 1.2 million visitors last year.
The simmering issue of whales in the aquarium reached a boiling point following the deaths of belugas Aurora, 30, and Qila, 21, nine days apart in November because of an unidentified toxin.
