After Hazel Burns’s son was killed while driving John Stevens’ Acura in 2011, Stevens thought he’d help out the grieving mom by transferring ownship of the sedan to her, ensuring an ICBC payout that would pay for the young man’s funeral.
But once the transfer was made, ICBC told Burns that the $11,440.56 payment for the totalled car had been voided by the change in ownership, and now no one would get it.
