A Nanaimo man originally charged with murder in a deadly 2010 shooting has been convicted of possessing a restricted firearm instead.
Simon Philip Dockerill, 34, claimed he was only defending himself when he killed John Charles Borden, 47, in May of 2010.
While the Crown accepted that the fatal shooting was in self-defence and dropped the murder charge, Dockerill was still prosecuted for bringing an unauthorized gun and ammunition to the scene.
