Coquitlam RCMP has cancelled an earlier amber alert for two children they said were abducted, likely by their mother. The cancellation notice was sent out just after 9 p.m. Friday evening, but didn’t provide further details.

Police said Friday that the two children — eight-year-old Mateo Pastor Ruiz and nine-year-old Sofia Pastor Ruiz — are possibly travelling with the suspect, 36-year-old April Pastor, in a newer-model black four-door hatchback Ford Focus with an unknown licence plate.

RCMP received a report just before 2 p.m. of a parental abduction from Birchland Elementary School in Port Coquitlam.

Anyone seeing the vehicle should not approach it, but call 911.

“It is believed that April and the children are possibly in the Lower Mainland of B.C. or heading toward the Fraser Valley, and there is now reasonable concern for the safety of the children,” said Sgt. Annie Linteau, spokeswoman for the RCMP’s ‘E’ Division.

Mateo is described as five feet tall, weighs 85 pounds, has brown hair and blue eyes.

Sofia Ruiz is described as five feet tall, 90 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

April Pastor is described as six feet tall, 181 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Like her children, she is Caucasian. She was possibly wearing a green nylon ski jacket and jeans.

No other information was immediately available.
