SkyTrain’s Expo and Millennium lines experienced delays Tuesday afternoon after a large part of the system shut down due to a mechanical issue. They were back up and running by 3 p.m.
TransLink spokeswoman Anne Drennan said 12 trains lost communication with the control centre at about 1:10 p.m., causing delays in both directions on the Expo Line from Waterfront to King George Station.
“Of those 12 trains, seven have now been manually driven in with service now running from Edmonds to Waterfront,” Drennan said at about 2:30 p.m. “The remainder of the trains are currently being driven in. We’re optimistic service will be back by 3 p.m. or the beginning of peak period service. There are bus shuttles in place and others are being put in place between Edmonds and Waterfront.”
Drennan noted that the Millennium line was temporarily extending its service to Edmunds.
She said trains were stuck between stations but that nobody was left stranded.
