Hey, at least he wasn’t frying bacon.

Vancouver police hope the story of a man who broke into a home, stripped naked in the kitchen and started cooking eggs will encourage people to lock their doors.

Police say shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, a 35-year-old man walked into a home near Cambie and King Edward through an unlocked door.

“He removed his shoes and all of his clothing, took eggs out of the fridge, and began making a meal in the kitchen, damaging the stove and microwave in the process,” said VPD spokeswoman Laurel Kennedy in a release Thursday.

The 35-year-old man who lived there was in the other room watching TV, and thought his roommate was cooking. But when he went to check the kitchen, “he found the naked man, chased him out of the house and called police.”

Officers arrested a naked suspect a few blocks away, and he is facing charges of mischief and break-and-enter.

What’s more surprising, this isn’t the first time police have been called about nude intruders cooking eggs.

In July 2013, police say a 30-year-old man from Burnaby was arrested after breaking into an east Vancouver home. In that incident, the suspect even took a shower before firing up the stove.

Police say there have been 1,600 residential break-ins in Vancouver this year, about a third of which involved unlocked doors and windows.
