Murder suspect found after shooting of a Mountie near Revelstoke

The man wanted in the shooting of an RCMP officer and for gunning down a Saskatchewan woman has been found.

A post to the city’s Facebook page says the search for Sheldon Kyle Thunderblanket is over and “the safety of the community has been restored.”

Police have said they were looking for the 40-year-old man, whom they considered to be armed and dangerous.

The statement from the city says the officer who was shot has undergone reconstructive surgery on her hand and arm and is recovering.

She was shot near Golden on Tuesday after stopping a vehicle linked to a possible theft.

Thunderblanket is suspected of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home, gunning her down and leaving her sister badly wounded on the Little Pine First Nation in Saskatchewan.

Earlier Wednesday, as the manhunt around Revelstoke ramped up, family members contacted by Postmedia publicly urged Thunderblanket to turn himself in.

“I don’t even know where he’s running to — I doubt he even has any money,” said Kayla Tootoosis, a cousin of the two women who were shot Monday at a home near North Battleford, Sask.

Tootoosis is one of many family members and friends grieving the loss of Tami Frank, who had dated the suspect for two years and acted as step-mom to his kids before their breakup.

“It’s best you turn yourself in, Sheldon, you did the damage already. You got what you wanted,” she wrote on Facebook as news of the manhunt and Mountie shooting broke. “You broke so many peoples hearts from your devil decision.”

She says Thunderblanket had been increasingly aggressive towards his ex-girlfriend leading up to Monday’s break-in, including an attempt to wreck her car. “He put sugar in her gas tank,” she said.

Tootoosis said she noted someone was online using Thunderblanket’s Facebook account on Wednesday, even as police were searching Revelstoke, where the stolen car he was allegedly driving was found.

RCMP say the stocky, 40-year-old man apparently ditched that car just outside of Revelstoke, and police spent Wednesday morning searching within a four-kilometre area east of the B.C. mountain town.
