Vancouver police are working to find a man after a 12-year-old girl was groped on Friday in the West End.
According to police, three girls left a community centre in the area shortly after 9 p.m. Friday. As they walked past a 7-11 convenience store at Denman and Comox streets, they noticed a man standing outside, staring at them as he whispered to another man.
The girls continued west to Chilco Street when the man who had been staring ran up to them and grabbed the 12-year-old. He then fled east along Pendrell Street and north on Guilford Street.
“The girl was extremely shaken and upset, but not physically injured,” Sgt. Brian Montague said in the statement.
Police described the attacker as a white man with a light complexion, some facial hair and about 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10 tall. He was wearing grey clothing, a dark coloured hat and was carrying a black backpack.
Investigators were unable to find the man and are canvassing for video that may have captured footage, to help identify him.
