West End resident Greg Hoekstra was awoken Sunday to a spectacular sight — a vivid rainbow stretching across the sky from Richmond to West Vancouver. It was short-lived, but Hoekstra had enough time to grab his iPhone and take a photo from the balcony of his apartment.

Hoekstra said: “The photo was taken just after 7 a.m. from the balcony of my apartment on Beach Avenue. Normally I sleep in on Sundays, but my partner Amanda just happened to be awake and noticed the rainbow outside our living room window. The rainbow spanned across all of English Bay, from Richmond to West Vancouver. It lasted for five or 10 minutes before fading away into the clouds and overcast sky. By the time it disappeared, some of our neighbours were also on their balconies trying to snap photos with their cellphones. We have lived in the West End for six years and have never seen anything quite like it.”
