A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday at Abbotsford Airport with a loaded rifle.
Abbotsford Police received a call about a possibly armed man at the airport at 3:30 p.m.
He was at a car rental kiosk, and was openly wearing what appeared to be a rifle bag over his shoulder, said Const. Ian MacDonald.
One of the airport staff called police. Officers found a man in the washroom. He had a loaded SKS rifle, a Soviet-made semi-automatic carbine from the late 1940s, and additional ammunition.
The man, who is from Chilliwack, was taken into custody without incident.
Police are still trying to determine what the man was doing at the airport.
“We know he was having an interaction with a car rental agency, but we have not at this point confirmed if he was arriving or planning to depart,” said MacDonald.
The man faces weapons charges. The investigation is ongoing.
