For reasons we are still trying to figure out, Vancouverites were treated to a fireworks display worthy of the Celebration of Light last night.
The private fireworks show — an oxymoron, I know — started around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the Vancouver Convention Centre over Burrard Inlet.
Rockets illuminated the sky and their explosions echoed through the streets and alleyways of downtown as if to say “happy random Tuesday celebration, Vancouver.”
The City of Vancouver’s Twitter account, which has previously alerted residents of upcoming private fireworks shows for local conventions and lavish weddings, offered no advanced warning last night.
No one asked for it or expected it, but everyone appreciated the surprise fireworks show.
Ok, except for her dog.
