Kelowna RCMP are searching for two suspects following a serious assault early Monday involving machetes.

Police said that at 12:11 a.m. officers responded to a report of an assault in Ben Lee Park in the 900-block Houghton Road in Rutland. The 22-year-old victim was with a group of associates when he was allegedly approached and attacked by two male suspects armed with machetes. The two men allegedly kicked and punched the victim countless times. The victim also sustained injuries after being struck by the machetes.

“RCMP believe that the victim was targeted by his attackers,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The police investigation is ongoing and the RCMP are searching for any additional witnesses who may have been in the area at the time.”

The victim suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The first suspect was described as a First Nations male, 25 to 30 years old, about 6-feet tall, shaved head, heavy set and wearing a red shirt. The second suspect is a Caucasian male, shorter than the first suspect, 25 to 30 years old, skinny or slender build, and wearing a sport jacket with grey and black sleeves, and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
