A seven-year-old child is in critical condition after falling off a cliff in Lighthouse Park.
The child was hiking in the popular West Vancouver park when he fell about 15 metres down a rocky embankment Sunday afternoon.
West Van Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Bush said firefighters were able to mount a technical rescue and transport the child, fully immobilized, on a backboard.
Because of the terrain, rescue crews deemed it was safer to do a water evacuation. The coast guard, which also responded to the incident, transported the child to the Kitsilano base, where he was then taken to hospital with serious injuries.
