Four sent to hospital following Sea to Sky crash Saturday morning

The Sea to Sky Highway was closed for several hours on Saturday following a head-on collision that sent four people to hospital.

Drive B.C. began reporting delays on Highway 99 just north of Lions Bay, after an accident around 10:30 a.m. stopped traffic in both directions. At least two vehicles were believed to be involved in the collision.

According to a B.C. Emergency Health Services spokeswoman, four ambulances and a helicopter were sent to the scene. Three patients were taken to hospital by ambulance, while one was taken by air ambulance. There is no word on their condition at this time.

The route re-opened to single-lane alternating traffic around 1 p.m., and re-opened fully just after 3 p.m.

A number of vehicles headed north on Highway 99 on Saturday morning were likely destined for the Squamish Beer Festival, which was scheduled to take place at the O’Siyam Pavilion beginning at 2 p.m.
