A broken water main near the Sapperton Station, which caused water to shoot an estimated 30-metres into the air over the SkyTrain tracks, led to travel delays and some flooding in New Westminster.
The incident led to a loss of service between Sapperton and Braid stations on Saturday afternoon. A shuttle bus was put in place between the two stations during the delay.
The Canada Line was not affected.
TransLink spokeswoman Anne Drennan says there was no SkyTrain travelling at that intersection when the main burst. She said it’s unlikely there would have been any danger to passengers if it had been travelling on the tracks at that time because the water was shooting straight up away from the guideway.
However, she said some debris from the water fell on the tracks, which crews are working to remove.
New Westminster police say the damaged water main has caused extensive flooding in the intersection of Braid Street and Brunette Avenue in New Westminster.
