A motorcyclist’s tricky move to avoid a bridge toll was caught on a dashboard camera by a passing vehicle.
The YouTube video was posted a few days ago and shows a motorcycle approaching the Port Mann Bridge toll cameras and the rider reaching back to cover the licence plate.
The manoeuvre potentially saved the driver $1.60 — unless he gets caught.
One toll cheat was nabbed last year after a police officer spotted a vehicle crossing the Golden Ears Bridge that didn’t have a visible rear licence plate, but after passing the toll cameras the plate appeared. The officer tracked the vehicle to a Port Coquitlam resident who had rigged up a simple cable system connected to a hinge. The driver could pull the cable to drop the plate before reaching the toll cameras then lift it back into place.
The driver was charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000 and his vehicle was seized. Police also applied to have the car forfeited by the Crown as offence-related property.
