Police are investigating after two elderly woman were attacked in separate attacks on Vancouver’s west side Thursday.
Just before noon near West Broadway and Ash Street, an 84-year-old woman was sitting on her walker waiting for a ride when an unknown man approached, kicked her off her seat and walked away, according to Vancouver Police.
The woman remains in hospital recovering with a broken elbow.
About two hours later, a 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair was out for a walk with her daughter when the pair were approached by a man. The suspect punched the senior woman in the face and walked away. The woman suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
The suspect in the first incident is described as white, in his 20s, about 5-foot-10 with a medium build and full beard. The victim told police he was wearing a dark navy top, navy baseball hat and white shoes.
The victim in the second incident and her daughter were unable to provide a description to police, but investigators believe that, based on the type of assault and the proximity, it may be the same suspect behind both incidents.
Police will canvass the area for video surveillance in hopes of obtaining a photo of the suspect. Anyone with information about this suspect or the assaults is asked to contact police.
