Arrests made in Surrey, Richmond in drug trafficking investigation

Several people have been arrested in Surrey and Richmond in connection with an ongoing investigation started last year into a dial-a-dope drug trafficking operation.

RCMP said Thursday that evidence consistent with street level drug trafficking including cash, phones, and varying amounts of controlled substances were located during the initial investigation.

Four people were arrested Wednesday on outstanding drug warrants, while another four will be facing a number of drug-related charges.

Now in custody are Ravinder Samra, 29, of Surrey; Hazim Hazim, 20, of Surrey; Tony Tran, 30, of Surrey; and Peter Butcher, 52, of Surrey.

“(The) arrests are part of a larger strategy to decrease the violence in our city caused by the dangerous activities of drug traffickers plying their illegal trade on our streets,” said Surrey RCMP Insp. Shawna Baher. “The Surrey RCMP continues to advance investigations on a number of individuals that pose the most significant risk to public safety.”

Further arrests are anticipated and the RCMP is seeking additional information on four others wanted on drug trafficking charges: Priya Sandhu, 23, of Richmond; Abdulhamid Sultan, 20, of Surrey; James Griffiths, 43, of Surrey; and Layla Low, 22, of Surrey.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
