Bylaw inspectors have issued nearly $20,000 in violation tickets to Vancouver pot shops that do not meet the city’s regulatory scheme, according to the latest numbers from the city.
While 28 shops complied with a city order to shut down by the end of April, 62 others continue to operate and are subject to enforcement, said Jag Sandhu, a city spokesman.
In all, the city has issued 78 $250 violation tickets to stores that have refused to shut down. Nearly 60 of those tickets were handed out since the April 29 deadline.
City councillors passed new regulations for marijuana dispensaries last summer, but staff have yet to issue any business licences. A trio of licence applications are under review, Sandhu said. Staff have issued ten development permits and another 11 are being reviewed.
Meanwhile, dozens of refused applications are pending appeal at the board of variance.
