Bylaw inspectors issued 23 violation tickets to Vancouver pot shops this past weekend in a bid to shut down storefronts that do not meet the city’s regulations.
After bringing in local rules for the industry last fall, city staff ordered dozens of marijuana dispensaries to close within six months. Since that time, 22 pot shops have shuttered and a total of 44 tickets have been issued, according to a news release from the city.
Any dispensaries operating without a licence face a $250 fine each day they continue to operate.
City staff okayed just seven of the 176 marijuana licence applications they received last fall. Thirteen others are under review and 44 are scheduled for appeal.
