Members of B.C.’s police watchdog agency are investigating whether there is a connection between police action and the death of a 54-year-old man in Abbotsford’s Clearbrook area Sunday.
Police were called about a fight at a business in the 32900-block of South Fraser Way at about 8:30 p.m. When officers arrived a few minutes later, they found an unconscious man on the ground outside the store, said Ian MacDonald, an Abbotsford Police Department spokesman.
The officers checked for vital signs and started to perform CPR when they were unable to find a pulse. Firefighters and paramedics took over later.
The man was taken to hospital, but he was pronounced dead at about 9:15 p.m.
Members of the Independent Investigations Office investigate all officer-related deaths or serious injuries in B.C.
