A boy who went missing Saturday evening at a provincial campground northeast of Kimberley has been found safe.
Mounties and search teams spent the night searching for the two-year-old boy after he disappeared from the campground at Premier Lake Provincial Park.
Issac Leuenberger was last seen around 7 p.m. Saturday at the campground, which is just east of Skookumchuck. He had been out for a walk with his mother and two other siblings when they realized he was no longer with them.
Kimberley RCMP and search and rescue crews found the boy at around 11 a.m. near Yankee Lake, about two kilometres away from where he was last seen.
Cpl. Chris Newel said the boy had a few scratches on him and was hungry but was otherwise healthy and didn’t need to be taken to hospital.
The boy’s family and all the search and rescue volunteers who came out to help are grateful and elated, he said.
Newel said it appears the toddler got distracted and wandered up the wrong trail without his family.
