Vancouver police have arrested one suspect in a random attack against a man in East Vancouver and have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a second man.
Clifford Jackson, 32, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after a man was stabbed and suffered life-threatening injuries for which he was hospitalized for a week, said Vancouver police spokesman Const. Brian Montague.
“This was a fairly violent, random stranger attack,” he said. “There was nothing leading up to this attack.”
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Adam Ferreira, 30, who is wanted on the same charge. He is white, six-foot, 170 to 180 lbs., with brown eyes and hair and a tattoo of a dragon on his upper right arm, said Montague.
Neither suspect has a criminal record but Montague said they’ve had many contacts with police and officers were familiar with them.
Jackson has been released on bail, with a number of conditions, including not to consume drugs or alcohol.
During a search of a residence near McGill and Nanaimo streets where Jackson was arrested, police recovered a firearm and drugs. But Montague said a knife is difficult to connect to a crime.
Montague said the victim, 50, has since been released from hospital and is expected to recover.
The attack happened at 1 p.m. in the 3200 block of Eton Street.
Reports that the victim was a binner appear not to be true, said Montague.
He said he couldn’t release details about the attack because the case is before the courts.
