Vancouver Sun senior care home databases

Vancouver Sun readers can, for the first time, look up the number of problems that occurred in B.C. senior care homes last year.

The Sun compiled the database using information provided by the office of the BC Seniors Advocate.

This database allows readers to search for a facility to see how many incidents, including abuse/neglect, missing or wandering persons and what government calls “serious adverse events” (defined as an unanticipated event, unrelated to an underlying medical condition, that likely contributed to severe harm to or death of a patient).

This graphic allows readers to search by incident type to find facilities with the most and fewest incidents.

And this database shows the average number of direct care hours received by care home patients at each government-funded facility in 2014-15. The guideline set by the B.C. Ministry of Health is 3.36 hours.
