Peter Ladner choked back tears Friday as he described the impact of the loss of his sister Wendy Ladner-Beaudry to a killer seven years ago.
And he announced that her family is offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the mysterious slaying in Pacific Spirit Park on April 3, 2009.
“I want to say we’re suffering, the community’s suffering and if you can end that suffering, help us,” said Ladner, a former Vancouver city councillor.
He stood with his siblings at a news conference at RCMP headquarters in Surrey.
“It is tremendously frustrating,” he said about the fact the killer has not been identified.
Ladner-Beaudry was running along the St. Georges Trail in the popular park some time between noon and 3 p.m. when she was killed.
RCMP S.Sgt. Wayne Clary said investigators have eliminated over 300 persons of interest identified after the murder.
They are looking for help from the general public to solve the high-profile murder.
“We know that someone out there has information they have not shared with police and we’re hoping that memories will be recalled,” Clary said.
“This was a horrible crime that must weigh on a person’s mind, whether they know who may be involved in its commission or have information that could help identify a suspect. We are pleading to anyone who may be able to help with this case to please have the courage to call us and tell us what you know.”
Ladner stood with his siblings at his side.
Ladner-Beaudry’s husband Michel was too overwrought by the painful anniversary to attend, Ladner said.
He read a statement from Beaudry, in which the grieving husband said: “The biggest torment for our family is that there has been no closure.”
Beards said he lies awake at night wondering what the killer is doing and thinking and “what it’s like to kill somebody and get away with it.”
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the RCMP Major Crime tippling at 778-290-5291.
Ladner also said his family knows there are others out there who are still waiting for justice for their loved ones who’ve also been murdered.
“All families suffering with unsolved murders deserve justice,” he said.
