Two Metro Vancouver men are facing 17 charges after Delta Police uncovered a large fentanyl lab in Burnaby.
Scott Pipping of Surrey, 34, and Adam Summers, 26, of Richmond, are charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession for the purposes of trafficking, possession of restricted firearms and possession of restricted firearms without licences.
Delta Police said in a news release that both are known to police and have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance March 22.
Investigators executed search warrants at three separate locations in Burnaby, Surrey and Richmond Thursday as part of the investigation.
“During a search of the Burnaby location officers discovered a large clandestine lab used to produce what appears to be the drug fentanyl. This lab is believe to be one of the largest fentanyl labs seen to date in B.C. in terms of drug production,” Delta Police Sgt. Sarah Swallow said.
“At this time, risk to public safety is low however to ensure the lab is dismantled as safely as possible, the RCMP CLEAR Team is on site for the dismantling, the Burnaby RCMP are assisting with the scene security and Burnaby Fire Department are assisting with the hazard materials component.”
She said the seizure “puts a huge dent in the production of this deadly drug.”
Delta Police Chief Constable Neil Dubord said: “Without question, this seizure will save lives. Fentanyl is a deadly drug that is colourless and odourless and for which there is no test. This drug is impacting the lives of everyday people, including those who may use drugs recreationally without understanding its consequences.”
