UBC showed off its latest concept to address the demand for affordable student housing with a demo display of a proposed 140-square-foot nano studio apartment.
The university is looking at a pilot project to build 70 of the self-contained micro suites in the Gage South Student Residence by 2019.
Each unit would have its own bathroom, kitchen and study/sleeping space. The bed, which has storage underneath, folds up to reveal a desk.
The furnished rooms, with high-speed internet included, would be priced at $675-$695 per month.
The demo suite can be viewed at the UBC Alma Mater Society Nest until April 1.
