Shots fired at a Surrey taxi, injuring passenger

Surrey RCMP is  investigating a shooting into a  local taxi which left a 40-year-old man with injuries.

Just after 5 a.m. Thursday, Mounties responded to a call of shots fired in the area of 143 Street  and 109 Avenue.

“Numerous 911 calls had been received from the area as well as a call from a male advising he had been shot in the leg,” S. Sgt. Blair McColl said in a news release.

“The male who had been riding in a taxi attended to hospital on his own and Surrey RCMP met him there confirming he had a  minor injury to his leg.”

McColl said investigators confirmed that several gunshots had been fired at the taxi, shattering the window and  grazing the passenger.

The victims was treated for his injuries and released from hospital.  The taxi driver was not injured.

 “The investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications are that this incident is likely targeted.   Motive for the shooting is not known,” McColl said.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
