Parents can now apply for the $1,200 B.C. Training and Education Savings Grant at BMO as well as at 350 credit unions in the province.
Parents or grandparent need to open a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)and apply for the grant to receive the money. Although they must open an RESP, no contributions are required to access the grant.
Children must have been born in 2007 or later and must live in B.C. The government is also working to ensure children in care have access to the grant, the education ministry said in a release.
Since the grant was launched in August, more than 7,000 people have applied and more than $8.1 million in grants has been approved, the ministry said.
The money must be used for post-secondary education or training.
