The Vancouver Police Department is using the Force in their fight against vehicle crime.

The VPD’s Auto Crime Enforcement Unit teamed up with the Safer Parking Initiative and Canadian Direct Insurance to produce a Star Wars-themed video warning shoppers to beware of criminals who will be targeting goods left in vehicles this Christmas season.

Detective Phil Ens with the VPD Auto Crime Unit appears in the video wearing a Rebel pilot flight suit and offers tips to prevent and reduce theft from vehicles during the holidays.

Tips to help prevent and reduce theft by not making your vehicle a target:

  • Lock items in your trunk
  • Do not leave any possessions visible in your car
  • Try not to make multiple trips to your car to drop off your shopping
  • Disable your trunk latch so your trunk cannot be opened from inside the car
  • Report suspicious people to police

“If you follow these, you’ll have a merry Christmas, and a safer Christmas,” says Ens.
