More than 500,000 British Columbians voted in advance polls ahead of the Oct. 19 federal general election.
Elections Canada estimates that a total of 507,920 voted over the four days (Oct. 9-12) of advance polls, which is nearly twice as many as the 259,000 B.C. residents who took part in advance polling in 2011.
Victoria with 17,501 voters had the biggest turnout among B.C. ridings, followed by two other Island ridings — Esquimalt-Saanich–Sooke (16,358) and Saanich-Gulf Islands (16,108).
West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country (16,108) was tops among Metro Vancouver ridings.
According to preliminary figures, 3.6 million Canadians voted at the advanced polls, which Elections Canada says is a 71 per cent increase over the 2,100,855 who voted in advance back in 2011. Monday was the busiest day with 1.2 million people casting a ballot.
