Man linked to Abby conflict faces trafficking charges

A young Abbotsford man believed to be involved in a violent conflict that left a bystander dead has been charged with drug trafficking.

Vishal Bajaj, 26, was arrested Tuesday about the Abbotsford Police gang and drug unit executed a warrant on a house in 30700-block of Sandpiper Drive.

Const. Ian MacDonald said officers seized cash, cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

“Bajaj has been charged with 3 counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking,” MacDonald said. “He is facing identical charges from a May 13, 2015 incident where he was arrested in a vehicle in the area of Upper Maclure Road and Mallard Street.”

He said Bajaj is now under court-ordered conditions that require he adhere to a residence curfew between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.

“He also is forbidden from possessing weapons, alcohol, drugs and cellphones. Anyone observing BAJAJ in breach of these conditions should contact the Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225 or via text 222973 (abbypd).”

MacDonald said police specifically targeted Bajaj because of his alleged involvement in the on-going conflict in the Townline Hill area.

A police surveillance cameras has been set up on Sandpiper because of shootings there.

Last week, a few blocks away on Promontory Court, 74-year-old Ping Shun Ao was shot to death by accident after his neighbour’s house was targeted in a drive-by shooting.

A resident of the house, Parmvir Chahil, is also believed to be involved in the conflict and is facing charges of uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Abbotsford Police are hosting an emergency community forum tonight for residents concerned about the violence.

There have been 65 incidents stemming from the conflict between two groups of youth that dates back 18 months.

Aside from Ao’s death, there have been six shootings, one serious stabbing and another fatal shooting.
