A Surrey man has received “significant injuries” after being stabbed in Port Kells early Monday.
Just after midnight, Surrey RCMP responded to shots fired call in the area of 184 Street and 92 Avenue.
Despite the reports, police have now determined there was no shooting and that the man found injured at the scene had in fact been stabbed, S. Sgt. Dale Carr said in a release.
“Investigators on the scene conducted a thorough examination of the area and were not able to substantiate that there was a shooting in the area,” Carr said. “Based on information gathered to date, investigators are of the belief that this incident does not appear to be a random act, but rather targeted at this young man.”
The victim was transported to a regional trauma hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
Investigators remain on the scene collecting evidence. 92 Avenue will be closed between 184 street and 187 Street for the next few hours.
If anyone has any information about this shooting, they are asked to call 604-599-0502.
