A bit of a catch-up day today. I’ve done a bunch of interactive maps and charts on various projects recently but haven’t been very good about blogging about them.
My colleague Larry Pynn had a couple of stories a few weeks back on marine accidents and rail accidents in B.C., based on some data he obtained from the Transportation Safety Board. I used that data to make an interactive map (of marine accidents) and some interactive charts (of rail accidents). Here they are:
Nerds only: The reason we didn’t map the rail accidents is that they didn’t come with lat/lon coordinates, but rather “mile markers” which — despite several efforts — I couldn’t find a way to convert into precise locations.
