Proposed Burrard Bridge upgrade would eliminate vehicle lane in favour of pedestrian lane

The city of Vancouver plans to eliminate a traffic lane on the Burrard Bridge while adding a pedestrian lane and making safety improvements at the Burrard-Pacific Intersection.

The city plans to begin “necessary structural repairs and maintenance to the Burrard Bridge” in 2016.

Artist renderings for the proposed renovated bridge show a four-lane span instead of the current five-lane setup. Northbound traffic would flow on two lanes instead of three.
